Welcome back to Warriors!
The last 6 weeks have been incredibly stressful for everyone with our swimmers scattered over a number of alternate pools and our main Club session, Sunday afternoon becoming unavailable. We were given less than 24 hours notice that the pool was going to close for 6 weeks, leaving us little time to contact our members. Fortunately, Creating Leisure were able to accommodate some of our swimmers at Shoebury pool (although that also temporarily closed for emergency repairs) and Head Coach Will Brogan managed to obtain time at other pools, minimising the disruption as far as possible.
We would especially like to thank our friends at Runnymede Swimming Club, Canvey Island Swimming Club and Chelmsford Swimming Club for allowing some of our main competitive swimmers to train at their pools.
Now we're back, just a quick reminder that the Club swimming times are as follows:
Squad:
Monday to Friday: 5.30 a.m. to 7.30 a.m. Monday 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. by Coach's invitation only
Saturday: 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Sunday: 3.45 p.m. to 5.45 p.m.
Non Squad:
Saturday: 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Sunday: 3.45 p.m. to 4.15 p.m. (widths) 4.15 p.m. to 5.15 p.m. (lengths 1) 5.15 p.m. to 5.45 p.m. (lengths 2)
Training Pool:
Sunday: 3.45 p.m. to 4.15 p.m., 4.15 p.m. to 4.45 p.m., 4.45 p.m. to 5.15 p.m., 5.15 p.m. to 5.45 p.m.
Your Coach will tell you what your times are.
Swimmer progression:
Depending on an individual swimmer's ability level when first joining the Club you will be assigned a training slot (or slots). Swimmers progress as their ability increases from Training Pool to Widths Lane 1.
After moving up the widths they then progress to half hour Lengths, then one hour Lengths. Finally they are invited to join the main competitive Squad.
Recent Club Successes
Congratulations to all B.O.S.S. swimmers who have competed at recent County championships.
Despite the reduced training facilities the Club achieved many top six places and three of our Swimmers became County champions in their races.
These are: Katarina Blanco, Harry Payne and Jonathan Sayer.
Good luck to those B.O.S.S. swimmers competing in the remaining championship blocks.
The Club also recently participated in the Ipswich and High Wycombe galas, putting in good performances at both venues. See the Club website or the notice board at Warriors for results.
New Committee
At the Annual General Meeting held on 19th February 2008 at the Civic Centre a new Committee was elected. The members are:
If you have any questions about the Club please feel free to approach any of the Committee during Club training hours or via e-mail using our general e-mail address bossinfo@hotmail.co.uk.
In addition, Andy MacLean has agreed to take over the running of the Club website.

Sponsored Swim
The Club will shortly be arranging a sponsored swim, date to be confirmed.
See newsletter for more details.
Sponsorship Needed
Last year we were delighted to receive sponsorship from Frankie & Benny's New York Italian Restaurant & Bar. You may have seen the new track suits in use by the main competitive squad showing their name on the back.
We have also just received sponsorship from Ernest Doe & Sons Ltd - suppliers of gardening equipment, country clothing and work wear.
Many thanks to those 2 companies, however…….…we need more!
See newsletter for more information.
Finance and changes to Club Fee payments - Important!
Malcolm McKinnon retires as Charirman
At the annual disco and presentation night back in December the Club presented Malcolm with a set of champagne glasses as a retirement gift.
However we have not seen the last of Malcolm as he has agreed to officiate at time trials and will also be a commentator at the County championships.
On behalf of all the Club past and present we would like to thank Malcolm for his dedication and service to B.O.S.S. and we look forward to seeing him again soon.
Lots more about Malcolm's involvement and the history of BOSS in the newsletter.
Team Captains
At the annual Club disco and presentation night the swimmers had the opportunity to vote for 4 Team Captains.
The outcome was the following who will serve until the end of the year:
Senior Captain (Girls): Tia Hazleton
Senior Captain (Boys): George Morris
Junior Captain (Girls): Alexa Foster-Carter
Junior Captain (Boys): Harry Payne
The role of Club captain is to act as a liaison between the swimmers and the Coaches / Committee.
If your child has anything they wish to discuss please ask them to speak to the relevant Club Captain.
